The experience of watching a movie in cinema halls is often completed with popcorn. This snack has become not only a part of watching the movie, but an indispensable experience for the audience. But now the audience may have to think twice to enjoy the movie with snacks. Because after the 55th meeting of the GST Council held in Jaisalmer, the prices of popcorn are going to reach a new height. According to the new decision of the government, if the popcorn is prepared with ordinary salt and spices and is not packaged or labeled, then 5% GST will be levied on it. But if the popcorn is packaged and labeled, then the audience will have to pay 12% GST. On the other hand, popcorn made from sugar like caramel has been placed in the category of "sugar confectionery". On which 18% GST will be levied.
This decision of the government can definitely become a challenge for cinema lovers. Due to the expensive prices of popcorn, the audience may have to think twice about the choice of their snacks while watching the movie. The impact of this new GST will not only be on cinema lovers, but it can also have a deep impact on the business of cinema halls. Will this decision of the government spoil the experience of the audience, or will people still not change their habits? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain that the pleasure of popcorn will now become a bit more expensive.
